KOROMO Japanese Tea Cup

This is a teacup (cup) from the "KOROMO" series, where you can simultaneously experience the unique texture of wood, the beautiful hues of lacquer, and the elegance of maki-e. The upper part of the teacup is coated with red or black lacquer, the lower part is finished clear to showcase the natural wood grain, and a line of gold or silver maki-e in between adds a stylish touch to the otherwise simple design. Light and easy to use, it can be enjoyed not only as a teacup but also for soft drinks, beer, or shochu. Wooden teacups are quite rare, but they offer a soft and exceptional drinking experience. Even when filled with hot tea, the heat doesn’t easily transfer to the outer surface, making it easy to hold, and the tea stays warm longer. Many people continue to use it once they try it. The lacquered part is finished with a technique called "Mehajiki," which allows the wood grain to remain visible, making it suitable for everyday use.
