The word "凛 rin" refers to the severe cold that makes one feel a shiver down their spine.
For many living creatures, the harsh cold of midwinter is a difficult and trying time. "Rin" evokes the image of flowers enduring the winter amidst the snow that accumulates during this harsh season.
The white of the vase is achieved with a glaze called "Shino-yu," which is mainly composed of feldspar. Feldspar is a glassy material, but this glaze tends to produce many cracks and bubbles, giving it a cloudy appearance. The glossy texture, characteristic of glassy materials, evokes the coldness of winter.
