This is a Japanese plate created by Noboru Yamada, a traditional craftsman. The skills of Noboru Yamada, a Kyoto kimono gold leaf artisan, have been captured in this glass vessel. As each piece is handmade, no two are exactly alike.
Kawariyakibakuwa Kuroji "変り焼き箔輪黒地" refers to a technique where specially treated, heated gold leaf is applied in the shape of a ring or circle onto a black lacquered background. This technique creates a striking contrast between the shimmering gold and the deep black lacquer, adding a touch of elegance and luxury to the piece. The "変り" suggests that the artist has used unique methods to further enhance the gold leaf, making each piece distinct.
